Embassy issues safety warning after accident

The Chinese embassy in the United States issued an emergency notice on Saturday, urging Chinese nationals to exercise caution while traveling, after a deadly crash in Idaho killed five Chinese citizens. A pickup truck collided with a passenger van carrying 14 people near Yellowstone National Park on Thursday evening, killing six van passengers and the truck driver. The Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco confirmed that five of the dead were Chinese nationals. The embassy advised travelers to use reputable, licensed travel agencies, purchase accident insurance, and prepare thoroughly for road trips by understanding local traffic laws and conditions.

Missile from Yemen strikes main airport

A missile landed inside the perimeter of Israel's main airport on Sunday, wounding six people, halting flights and gouging a wide crater, in an attack claimed by Yemen's Houthi group. The Israeli military said "several attempts were made to intercept" the missile that was launched from Yemen, a rare Houthi attack that penetrated Israel's air defenses. It was not immediately clear whether the impact at Ben Gurion Airport was caused by the Yemeni missile or by an interceptor. The Houthis have been striking Israel throughout the conflict in Gaza in solidarity with Palestinians.

Ishiba airs frustration over auto parts tariff

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba expressed on Saturday his strong disappointment that a new 25 percent US tariff on auto parts took effect earlier in the day. Ishiba told reporters that Japan will continue to ask United States President Donald Trump's administration to reconsider its tariff measures. The US administration on Saturday imposed a new 25 percent tariff on imported auto components, in another blow to Japan's mainstay car industry already slapped with the same rate of tariff on automobiles that took effect in early April.
