Zhuhai killer executed for driving into crowd
The man who drove a car into a crowd and killed 35 in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, was executed on Monday.
The Zhuhai Intermediate People's Court announced and carried out the execution of Fan Weiqiu with approval from the Supreme People's Court.
The Zhuhai court sentenced Fan to death and deprived him of political rights for life in December for the crime of endangering public safety by dangerous means.
After reviewing the verdict, the Guangdong Provincial High People's Court submitted Fan's death sentence to the Supreme People's Court for approval.
The 62-year-old man drove a small SUV through a barrier at a sports center in Zhuhai, ramming people who were exercising on the road inside the venue.
After a thorough investigation, police found that Fan was dissatisfied with the split of financial assets in his divorce.
