Logistics activity hits 2024 high in Dec
China's logistics sector activity reached its highest level of 2024 in December, buoyed by supportive policies and market dynamics, industry data showed on Friday. The index tracking prosperity of the country's logistics market climbed to 53.1 percent, representing an increase of 0.3 percentage points from November, according to the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing. The total logistics volume index rose for the fifth consecutive month and all regions showed balanced growth in business volume, with the eastern region registering the most significant rise, the data showed.
Metro AG to open first store in Hainan
German retail giant Metro AG is set to open a new store in Haikou, capital of South China's Hainan province, in the second half of this year. Covering an area of 12,000 square meters, the new store will be situated in a cultural and tourism consumption complex at the heart of the city's bustling business district. The complex integrates duty-free shopping, upscale retail, fast-fashion outlets, sportswear brands and fine dining experiences. The company entered the Chinese market in 1996 when its first store opened in Shanghai.
