After more than three months of being inundated by floodwater, the Tuanzhou township in Hunan province recently welcomed an autumn harvest.

The township, located beside Dongting Lake, China's second-largest freshwater lake, was flooded on July 5 after a dike breach widened to 226 meters.

An area of 47.6 square kilometers ― 92.5 percent of the township ― was flooded. All 7,680 people living in Tuanzhou were transferred to safe places, and there have been no reports of casualties.

After the breach was closed and the flood water was drained, local governments wasted no time helping local farmers clean the debris and start sowing.

They sent agricultural machines to speed up the process and offered farmers free seedlings. A total of 41,600 mu (27.73 square kilometers) of farmland has been sown with newly grown grain and vegetables.
