Former Inner Mongolia lawmaker arrested
Du Zi, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been arrested on suspicion of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said in a statement on Thursday. The case was handed over to prosecutors for examination and prosecution following the conclusion of an investigation by the National Commission of Supervision, the SPP said.
Ex-senior legislator under investigation
Liu Mancang, a former senior legislator from Henan province, is being investigated for allegedly seriously violating Party disciplines and national laws, China's top anti-corruption watchdogs said on Thursday. The investigation was announced by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision online, with no further details disclosed. Liu, 69, became the deputy head of the Standing Committee of the Henan People's Congress in 2016.
5.3-magnitude quake hits Xinjiang county
No casualties or building collapses have been reported following a 5.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Akqi county in Kezilesu Kirgiz autonomous prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region at 6:23 am Thursday, authorities said. It was felt as far away as Wushi county, which is 59 kilometers from the epicenter.
