11 dead after bus rams crowd outside school

Eleven people died and 13 were injured after a rental bus ran into a crowd of students and adults at the gate of a middle school in Tai'an, Shandong province, on Tuesday morning, police in Dongping county said. The accident occurred at 7:27 am when the bus, which was used to transport students, "lost control" and crashed into pedestrians on the roadside, the police said. Among the injured, one person remains in critical condition, while the others are stable. The bus driver has been detained and the cause of the accident is under investigation, the police said.

Rocket hauls new satellites into space

China launched a Long March-4B carrier rocket on Tuesday to place a new group of remote sensing satellites in space. The satellites of the Yaogan-43 02 group were launched at 9:22 am from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province and entered their preset orbits. They will be mainly used for carrying out tests on new technologies for low-orbit constellations. It was the 533rd flight mission of the Long March series rockets.

Hainan on alert as typhoon approaches

Hainan province has activated a level-four emergency response as Typhoon Yagi, the 11th typhoon of this year, approaches its coast, local authorities said on Tuesday. Yagi has moved into the eastern part of the South China Sea and is continuing to approach the east of Hainan Island, gradually gaining strength as it does so. The typhoon is expected to land along the east coast of Hainan and the west coast of Guangdong province on Friday. Influenced by the typhoon, the province's sea areas will be hit by strong gusts until Sunday, and Hainan will experience heavy rainstorms from Thursday to Saturday.
