Xi: Drive high-quality development with Party discipline education
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has emphasized the significance of driving China's high-quality development with continuous outcomes from a Party-wide campaign on discipline education.
Xi, who is also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in a recent instruction, which was read out at a meeting of the Central Leading Group for Party Building on Friday.
It is important to make regular efforts to enable Party members to study, understand and abide by Party discipline, and establish a disciplinary education mechanism that combines both regular and intensive practices, he said.
Xi highlighted the need to eradicate the soil and conditions that give rise to corruption. Party members and officials must be encouraged to work diligently, act boldly and pursue progress with resolve, all within the framework of strict discipline, he added.
The meeting was presided over by Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, who is also the head of the central leading group.
Top legislator highlights role of whole-process people's democracy
Top legislator Zhao Leji has stressed the importance of practicing whole-process people's democracy to promote the high-quality development of the work of people's congresses in the new era.
Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, China's top legislative body, made the remarks during a fact-finding tour from Wednesday to Friday in Zhejiang province and Shanghai.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the NPC and the promulgation of the first Constitution of New China.
In Zhejiang, Zhao noted that the first Constitution enacted in 1954 laid the legal foundation for the establishment and development of China's socialist system, calling for strong confidence in the Constitution. In Shanghai, Zhao said that whole-process people's democracy helps pull wisdom and strength from various sides to jointly promote Chinese modernization.
Vice-president calls for strengthened exchanges with legislative bodies
Vice-President Han Zheng met with representatives attending the 2024 Legislators Forum for Friendly Exchanges in Beijing on Friday.
Han said that China is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the legislative bodies of other countries, jointly exploring modernization paths suited to their national conditions.
He noted that China will, as always, support exchanges and cooperation between the National People's Congress and parliaments of other countries and international and regional parliamentary organizations to create a sound legal environment for deepening cooperation.
