The High Energy Photon Source, or HEPS, which is located in Beijing’s Huairou district, successfully attained beam storage exceeding 10mA on Sunday, according to the Institute of High Energy Physics, which is part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Projections indicate that HEPS will have a future capacity of 200mA when it is expected to be fully operational by the end of next year, the institute announced.
Under construction since 2019, HEPS is poised to emerge as a leading fourth-generation high-energy light source globally. Boasting luminosity levels surpassing that of the sun by a factor of 1 trillion, this facility promises to drive progress in aerospace, energy, environment, and life sciences research.
