Three villages in Zixing, Hunan province, have lost communication with the outside world as torrential rains associated with Typhoon Gaemi have battered the city since Friday, Hunan Daily reported.
The average accumulated rainfall in Zixing from 8 am on Friday to 9 am on Monday was 409.9 millimeters, with the highest recorded rainfall reaching 673.6 mm, breaking historical records.
Telecommunication in some villages broke down under the heavy rain, and authorities are attempting to use drones and other methods to restore it.
Meanwhile, three helicopters were used on Monday morning to deliver food and daily necessities to townships in Zixing, where roads have become inaccessible.
