China's transport sector records steady growth

China's transport sector recorded a stable operation in the first half of the year, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The latest figures from the ministry say about 32.41 billion cross-regional trips had been made by the people in the first six months — up 7.4 percent year-on-year.

The nation also saw an urban passenger traffic volume of about 52.8 billion in the first half of the year, up 10.2 percent year-on-year. Of them, 19.5 billion were made through taking buses, 17.6 billion by taxies, 15.7 billion by urban rail transit and 37.56 million on ferries.

The ministry said that the commercial freight volume reached about 27 billion tons in first half of the year, registering a growth of 4.1 percent year-on-year.

It also said the nation's ports saw the cargo throughput reaching 8.56 billion tons during this period, an increase of 4.6 percent year-on-year.

The ministry added that the nation also channeled an investment of 1.7 trillion yuan ($234.50 billion) to the fixed assets of transport, with highway and waterway investments reaching 1.2 trillion yuan and 102.5 billion yuan respectively, during the same period.
