Eight found dead, 30 missing in flash flood
Eight missing people were found dead in a rainstorm-triggered flash flood in Xinhua village, Malie township, Hanyuan county in Sichuan province.
As of 10 pm on Saturday, eight bodies were found. The identities of five of the eight victims have been confirmed. Twelve injured people are receiving treatment and their conditions are stable, according to a press conference held in the county at 1 am on Sunday.
A total of 412 people threatened by the disaster have been safely relocated, said the conference.
The flood interrupted communication and blocked roads and bridges in Xinhua village at about 2:30 am on Saturday.
A preliminary investigation showed that more than 30 people are missing and over 40 houses have been damaged.
After the disaster occurred, an emergency rescue command center was immediately set up to carry out search and rescue and restoration of roads and communication, the Hanyuan county emergency management bureau said.
