Minle county leverages alfalfa advantages to boost farming economy

Gansu Huarui Agriculture Co Ltd workers have been busy harvesting the alfalfa on their 533 hectares of land in Minle Industrial Park in Minle county of Zhangye city, Gansu province.
They are expected to receive a yield of 12,000 kilograms per hectare.
Alfalfa is a high-quality feed, a perennial herbaceous plant known for its tender and nutritious leaves and stems.
Located at the northern foot of the Qilian Mountains, Minle enjoys abundant sunlight and a cool climate with minimal pests or diseases.
The high altitude and melting ice and snow from the mountains nurture high-quality alfalfa, making Minle an essential production area for the plant.
In recent years, the county has leveraged these advantages to develop its grass industry, with alfalfa as the main variety. It now has 14,000 hectares of high-quality grasses such as alfalfa and oats.
A sufficient forage supply provides the foundation for developing animal husbandry in Minle, which also benefits grassland ecology, grazing bans, ecological protection and sustainable development.
