Railway accident in Heilongjiang claims six lives
Six railway workers have been confirmed dead after an accident at the Tangyuan-Wangjiang section of Suihua-Jiamusi rail line in Heilongjiang province, Jiamusi train operation depot of China Railway Harbin Group said on its official Weibo account on Tuesday.
The accident occurred at 1:55 am on Tuesday when the running freight train No 42109 collided with construction workers intruding into the rail line.
The incident resulted in the deaths of two people on the spot, with four others injured, all of whom later were confirmed dead despite rescue efforts.
Upon receiving the accident report, the railway department promptly activated the emergency response plan for unexpected events and is fully engaged in rescue and follow-up work.
They also expressed deep condolences to the deceased and extended heartfelt sympathies to their families.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, and efforts will be made to carry out relevant follow-up work.
