New energy installed capacity increases
The combined installed capacity of new energy in the provinces of Guangdong, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hainan, as well as the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, totaled 145 million kilowatts, surpassing coal-fired power for the first time, China Southern Power Grid said on Thursday. Wind, solar, and other new energy sources have become the primary sources of electricity in the five regions, contributing around one-third to actual electricity consumption.
PBOC adds liquidity via reverse repos
China's central bank conducted 2 billion yuan ($281.82 million) of seven-day reverse repos at an interest rate of 1.8 percent on Thursday. The move aims to keep liquidity in the banking system reasonable and ample, the People's Bank of China said in a statement. A reverse repo is a process in which the central bank purchases securities from commercial banks through bidding, with an agreement to sell them back in the future.
