Former oil executive indicted for bribery

Xu Wenrong, a former deputy general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation, has been indicted on charges of accepting bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on Tuesday. Following the completion of investigations by the National Commission of Supervision, the People's Procuratorate of Shenyang, Liaoning province, filed Xu's case at the city's intermediate people's court, the top procuratorate said. Prosecutors accused Xu of taking advantage of his various previous posts to seek profits for others and accept particularly large sums of money and valuables in exchange. Prosecutors had informed the defendant of his legal rights, interrogated him and listened to the defense counsel's arguments, the top procuratorate said.

5 dead after store fire in South China

Five people were killed after a fire engulfed a grocery store in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Monday, local authorities said on Tuesday. The fire broke out at around 3 am on Monday in Cangwu county in the city of Wuzhou and was put out about three hours later, the county's emergency management bureau said. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

New air route links Changsha, Mongolia

A new international air route linking Changsha, the capital of Central China's Hunan province, and Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia, was unveiled on Tuesday. The first regular direct flight from Changsha to Mongolia, it will run once a week and be operated by an E190 aircraft from Mongolia's Hunnu Air. The inbound trip will leave Ulan Bator at 9:40 pm every Saturday and arrive in Changsha at 1 am on Sunday. The outbound trip will depart from Changsha at 1:55 am on Sunday and arrive in Ulan Bator at 5:30 am. The air route is also the first direct air route connecting Central China and Mongolia.
