Migrant workers back from holiday trips; job fair set

More than 90 percent of migrant workers have returned to their working positions in Guangdong province after the Spring Festival holiday, the local human resources authority said.

Human resources authorities chartered more than 30 trains and 400 buses to help migrant workers get back to Guangdong during the travel rush, which ended in early March, said Xia Yibing, director of Guangdong's Employment Service Department.

"Measures have been taken to ensure the return to work of poor people and laborers in areas of cooperation between Guangdong and its neighboring provinces and regions, along with employees of key enterprises," Xia said during a news conference on Wednesday.

To help stabilize the employment market, a large job fair has been scheduled simultaneously on Sunday in the cities of Guangzhou and Dongguan, providing more than 50,000 positions at 1,100 companies.

A total of 386 manufacturing enterprises that are mainly engaged in mechanical, electronic and food manufacturing will attend the job fair, organizers said.

"The overall employment situation in Guangdong remains stable, as the economic growth of the province has driven a steady recovery in employment momentum and more workers have returned to their posts after the holiday," said Xie Zhongbao, deputy director of Guangdong's Human Resources and Social Security Department.

Additionally, enterprises in Guangdong have developed confidence in production and operations and have been able to expand job opportunities, Xie said.

A survey conducted by the human resources authorities found that 88.7 percent of enterprises in Guangdong expect their operations to remain stable or improve in 2024, and 70.3 percent of enterprises indicate that employment will remain stable or increase.

"Orders from key foreign trade enterprises in the province have also rebounded, laying a solid foundation for expanding job opportunities," Xie said.
