In his message sent to Sheikh Mishal on Sunday, Xi said that China and Kuwait enjoy a profound traditional friendship and have made remarkable progress in bilateral relations since diplomatic ties were established more than 50 years ago.
He said the two countries have always firmly supported each other on issues concerning their respective core interests.
Bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields have made positive progress and friendship between the two peoples has been continuously consolidated and deepened, he added.
Noting that he attaches great importance to the development of bilateral relations, Xi said that he stands ready to work with Sheikh Mishal to lift the China-Kuwait strategic partnership to higher levels in order to bring more benefits to the two peoples.
The Kuwaiti government announced Sheikh Mishal as the new emir of the country in succession to Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 86.
Sheikh Mishal, 83, had been Kuwait's crown prince since October 2020.
