Honest boy earns praise from border police
Six-year-old Zhou Botao has become a superstar in his kindergarten in Yunnan province after receiving a handwritten certificate of merit and a bouquet of sunflowers from local border police.
Recently, Botao and his kindergarten friends in Mengman township of Mengla county of Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture found a wallet while playing outside.
Botao immediately ran to tell his grandmother and then hurried back with his mother to the place where the wallet had been found. They couldn't find any identifying markings on the wallet and nobody around claimed to be the owner.
That's when Botao told his mother that he wanted to send the wallet to the police. So his mother and elder sister accompanied him to the Mengman border police station. The officers confirmed there was more than 2,000 yuan ($280) in the wallet and praised Botao for his honesty.
Eventually, the police were able to contact the owner and return the wallet.
To commend Botao for his honesty, the officers decided to give him a surprise. On the morning of Nov 28, officers from the station visited Botao's kindergarten and delivered special gifts.
They also told the story of the boy's honesty to all of his classmates, eliciting their enthusiastic applause.
