China's commitment to high-quality development in focus at the 2023 Understanding China Conference

The 2023 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou), which takes place in the Guangdong provincial capital at the beginning of December, will deliver to the world a positive message about China's commitment to comprehensive deepening of reform, high-quality development and high-level opening up, event organizers said.

Xu Weixin, chairperson of the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, said the event will help boost the confidence of countries around the world to build a community with a shared future, while telling the stories of China, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangdong province and Guangzhou city to the world.

Xu made the remarks at a news conference in Guangzhou on Monday about the upcoming event.

She said this year's event will publicize the distinctive features and development of Chinese path to modernization and the new form of human civilization while showcasing China's new achievements under the unprecedented changes in the world and highlighting China's plans and responsibilities.

"Meanwhile, the conference will also interpret China's firm adherence to a development strategy of mutual benefit and win-win opening up under the background of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation and also showcase the Chinese style and urban value and the blueprint of the GBA," she said.

The three-day event beginning Friday will bring together politicians, officials, experts, entrepreneurs, foreign envoys and representatives of international organizations and multinational companies.

According to Shi Ling, vice-president of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, more than 70 international guests from more than 30 countries and regions have been confirmed to attend the conference as of Monday. Among them, six are former political figures at or above the level of deputy prime minister.

The event is co-hosted by the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs and the Guangdong provincial government and organized by Guangzhou government.

The event will include parallel seminars, thematic conferences and closed door seminars.
