Global forest network for sustainable development launched in Pu'er

The Global Network for Sustainable Forest Management was launched on Oct 24 at the 1st Pu'er Forum on Asia-Pacific Forests in Pu'er city, Southwest China's Yunnan province, contributing to the Global Development Initiative.
The global network was launched by representatives from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China, Fiji's Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, and the forest authorities of Laos, Myanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
More than 150 people attended the launch ceremony, including forest officials from 14 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Representatives of international organizations, forestry universities, research institutes and enterprises in the region were also present.
The idea of the global network was endorsed at a high-level dialogue on global development hosted by China in June 2022. Bolstering the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the network will be entrusted to the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation to run its operations.

Through policy coordination, pilot projects, capacity building and information sharing, the global network will better balance economic development and eco-conservation, carrying forward green and low-carbon practices. It is open to all countries in the world, especially to members of the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative.
