Five dead in septic tank accident in Hubei

Five people died after they fell into a pigsty septic tank in Xiabaoping township, Yiling district, Yichang city, Hubei province.

According to a Thursday report by Yunshangyiling, a district news outlet, the first victim, a local resident surnamed Hu, fell into the septic tank on Sunday when he was doing cleaning work. Villagers nearby came for rescue and four of them slid into the same tank.

After the incident, the district organized six teams for on-site rescue, medical treatment and coordination. The victims were rescued and sent to the hospital at midday Sunday. Despite treatment, they all died on Wednesday afternoon.

The teams are carrying out follow-up work.
