Former senior Chinese sports official expelled from CPC, public office

BEIJING - Du Zhaocai, former vice head of the General Administration of Sport of China, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office over serious violations of discipline and law.

The punishment was announced in an official statement by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision on Saturday.

An investigation of Du's case found that Du, also a former member of the administration's leading Party members group, had lost his ideals and beliefs, resisted investigations into his problems, and engaged in superstitious activities.

The statement also said that Du had defied the Party's eight-point decision on improving Party and government conduct and illegally accepted gifts and money. Du failed to report his personal matters as required and was untruthful when answering relevant inquires, according to the statement. Du was also found to have taken advantage of his posts to seek profits for others in business operations and employee recruitment, and illegally accepted huge sums of money and valuables in return.

These actions have gravely breached Party discipline and constitute serious duty-related crimes, the statement said, adding that Du is also suspected of criminal offenses in the form of accepting bribes.

In line with Party regulations and laws, a decision has been made to expel Du from the Party and public office, confiscate his illicit gains, and hand over his case to prosecutors for review and prosecution.
