Tinware craft

In Zhejiang province, Jinhua's county-level city of Yongkang now boasts to be a hub for hardware production, and in history, the area had a time-honored tradition in tin carving.

Archaeological discoveries have proved that as early as the Shang and Zhou dynasties (c.16th century-256 BC), China's tinware craft was already relatively advanced.

The local artisans have been fusing various regional techniques and seeking innovations in carving, engraving and polishing, resulting in the prominent reputation of their tinware across the country.

With the products characterized by an antique allure and glossy finish, the tin carving technique was extensively adopted in crafting dowries, ceremonial props, religious tools and household items. The tin-carving craftsmanship is also deeply rooted in local culture.
