Shanghai has played a unique role in the Belt and Road Initiative by making a total of $30 billion investments in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative over the past decade, according to official sources.

During the same period, Shanghai inked more than $70 billion worth of project contracts and reached over $1 trillion in trade value, said Gong Zheng, mayor of Shanghai during the second Conference of the Belt and Road Economic Information Partnership and 2023 Shanghai Entrepreneurs Conference for the Belt and Road High-quality Development on Wednesday in Shanghai.

"This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. By targeting high standards, sustainability and people's livelihood as the goal, Shanghai will take this opportunity to consolidate the communications and cooperations, better coordinate development and security, steadily expand high-level opening-up, strengthen high-level service as a support, continue to expand high efficiency project cooperation, and promote the high-quality development of the initiative," Gong said.

Themed as "Extensive Consultation, Joint Contribution and Shared Prosperity, Embark on a New Journey", the event is hosted jointly by the Xinhua News Agency and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government.
