A false perspective

A recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter) by US combat correspondent Michael Yon has gone viral as it claims that Shanghai has become a "ghost town" following the Covid-19 pandemic.
The post was accompanied by three images - an empty Starbucks outlet, a deserted walkway and a quiet road - that Yon said were taken by a friend on a work day. The post was cited by a report by Newsweek later.
China Daily visited those same spots in the photos and found the situation to be very different.
