Zhejiang woman receives over 500 stitches after dog bite

A 49-year-old woman in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, received over 500 stitches on her face after being bitten by a dog on Friday.
The woman, surnamed Wang, was doing laundry at her residence when the neighbor's Alaskan Malamute dog rushed out and bit her face. The dog's owner, surnamed Chen, was not home at the time of the incident.
Wang was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a lacerated left cheek and hemorrhagic shock. Doctors injected her with rabies immune proteins, stopped the bleeding, and administered a blood transfusion.
A team of doctors from different departments, including anesthesiology, otolaryngology, stomatology, and cosmetology, worked in a relay to perform a five-hour surgery to close the wounds. Over 500 stitches were used in the operation.
Wang has regained consciousness and is now receiving monitoring and further treatment in the intensive care unit.
The dog has been quarantined and its owner has been taken into custody by the police. The police are still investigating the incident.
