More than 600 million passenger trips made during summer season

More than 600 million passenger trips have been made on the railway network across China during the summer season, the national railway operator China State Railway Group said on Wednesday.
From July 1 to Tuesday, 614 million rail passenger trips have been made. During the time, the peak day fell on Saturday, with a total number of 15.33 million trips having been made.
Since mid-August, the national railway has ushered in the peak of return passenger flow.
To meet the strong travel need, the railway department has begun operating more services. During the summer, an average of 10,578 passenger train services were operated on national railways everyday, an increase of 18.9 percent over the same period in 2019, marking a significant increase of Chinese people's travel desire and the nation's railway network's booming capacity.
More services have been added based on the analysis of ticket sales and the ticket sale's waiting list, such as adding more carriages on regular-speed trains and operating bullet trains at night.
To better facilitate the travel market during the summer season, more tourism train services have been operating between major popular tourism destinations such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou of Guangdong province and Xi'an of Shaanxi province, the group said.
