The Supreme People's Procuratorate announced on Friday that the arrest of Yi Pengfei, the former vice-chairman of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, has been approved on charges of bribery and abuse of power.

The National Supervisory Commission completed its investigation into his activities and subsequently transferred his case to the procuratorate in July. The case is currently undergoing further proceedings.

In a statement released by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and National Supervisory Commission in July, it was revealed that the 61-year-old had failed to fulfill his responsibilities in Party governance, indulged in personal pleasures and misused his authority, leading to substantial losses of public assets.

He was also found to have violated the CPC Central Committee's eight-point frugality code, attended banquets that could compromise impartiality and accepted improper gifts.

He was expelled from the Party and removed from his public posts in July.

Yi began working in 1983 and joined the Party in 1987. He spent his career in Hunan and served as vice-chairman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee since January 2018.

He was placed under investigation while serving as vice-chairman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee in February.
