Prosecutors release data on juvenile arrests
Prosecutors nationwide approved the arrest of some 9,400 juvenile suspects and another 23,000 people who committed crimes against minors from January to June this year, according to statistics issued by the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Wednesday.
Procuratorates approved the arrests of 316, 000 people and decided to launch prosecutions against 713,000 people during the first half of the year.
Among the prosecuted, about 14,000 were juveniles. Another 14,000 juvenile suspects were approved to adopt a conditionally non-prosecution procedure.
Procuratorial organs nationwide also carried out visits, psychological counseling and family education for juvenile suspects who are approved to not be arrested or prosecuted, as well as juveniles who had criminal punishments imposed.
Prosecutors also actively participated in the special rectification of campus safety, and prosecuted more than 120 people for campus violence and bullying, down 62.4 percent year-on-year.
Additionally, they strengthened case review and broadened channels for finding problems involving minors. Prosecutors handled more than 6,800 public interest litigation cases in key areas that may be against minors' rights such as online games, hotel stays and the sales of tobacco and alcohol.
For instance, from January to June this year, procuratorates and other departments in central China's Hubei province inspected 6,310 hotels and found 1,295 were not implementing minor protection policies. Among them, 51 hotels had their licenses revoked, and the rest were ordered to carry out rectification.
