China renews yellow alert for high temperatures
BEIJING -- China's national observatory on Sunday renewed a yellow alert for high temperatures as heatwaves continue to scorch vast stretches of the country.
During daylight hours on Sunday, temperatures in parts of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Beijing, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangxi and Guangdong are expected to reach 35 to 36 degrees Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Center.
Some areas in Xinjiang and Gansu may experience maximum temperatures of over 40 C, according to the forecast.
The center has advised people to reduce outdoor activities in the afternoon and has offered guidance on heatstroke prevention and cooling to the elderly, children and those in poor health conditions.
It has also suggested that people who need to work under high temperature conditions, or outdoors for a long time during the day, adopt necessary protective measures.
China has a three-tier weather warning system for high temperatures, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange and yellow.
