Village volleyball tournament unfolds in Hainan


A total of 19 volleyball teams from 16 towns and three agencies across Danzhou, Hainan province, are participating in a five-day village tournament that began on Monday.
The 2023 Danzhou Dongpo Yurui Village Volleyball League matches are being held in Qili village in Zhonghe town. Every day before the matches begin, the venue is packed with spectators. Anyone coming late has to use a stool or ladder to see the game. Some have climbed trees to get a better view.
On Monday evening, well-known sportscaster Han Qiaosheng came to Qili to comment on the first match.
In Danzhou, village volleyball has become an important activity to enrich residents' lives, show their spiritual outlook and promote rural civilization and economic development, according to a representative from the Danzhou Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports.
He said he believed that holding such competitions, will drive more rural sports to develop and help create a healthy atmosphere to promote rural harmony and revitalization.
