Historic downpour hits Pearl River Delta

Heavy rainfall hit most of the Pearl River Delta region early Tuesday morning, with Bao'an district in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, witnessing a historic record downpour of 142.2 millimeters within one hour, according to local weather authorities.
Rainstorm warnings in Shenzhen have been lifted since 8:50 am on Tuesday, with short showers and lightning warnings across the city still in effect.
Heavy rains are usually seen in Guangdong before the traditional Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu Festival, which falls on June 22.
