Promoting the construction of a pilot zone involving green, low-carbon, high-quality development across Shandong province will be among the key projects for the province over the next five years, according to a senior government official.

The zone is the country's first strategic arrangement that focuses on green, low-carbon and high-quality development, and it marks a milestone on the province's development, Zhou Naixiang, governor of Shandong said in the government work report delivered during the first session of the 14th Shandong People's Congress, which opened in Jinan, the provincial capital on Friday.

The province released a three-year (2023-25) action plan for building a green, low-carbon, high-quality development pilot area on Jan 3, including policies, projects and construction targets.

Shandong will promote the use of hydrogen vehicles and integrate resources in vehicle manufacturing to forge advantages in the auto sector this year, according to the government work report.

The province will also expand its energy conservation and environmental protection sectors this year by promoting at least 100 techniques on energy conservation and environmental protection and constructing 10 new industrial parks with environmental protection features.

Shandong has set a goal of 5 percent GDP growth for 2023, according to the work report.
