Around 400,000 telecom, network fraud cases resolved

Police nationwide resolved 391,000 cases of telecom and network fraud from January to the end of November this year, and made remarkable progress in cracking down on such crimes, said the Ministry of Public Security on Friday.

The number of suspects arrested increased by 64.4 percent year-on-year, the number of cases filed dropped by 17.3 percent year-on-year, and the number of property losses involved in such cases fell by 1.3 percent year-on-year, according to the ministry.

To resolutely curb the rapid rise of telecom fraud, the public security organs have targeted all sectors of the crime and relevant criminal activities that could facilitate such crime, and carried out several rounds of special operations across the country to target the crime, it said.

The ministry, Supreme People's Court and Procuratorate also launched an operation to chase ringleaders and core members of fraud groups, with 240 people been detained, it said.

On Dec 1, the new law of anti-telecom and online fraud took into effect, with the ministry, the top court and the top procuratorate also further improving the standards of law application of the crimes of illegally buying and selling mobile phone cards and bank cards to support telecom fraud, comprehensively improving the quality and effectiveness of the crackdown.

The ministry has also guided public security organs at different levels to set up classified warning and dissuasion mechanisms. By the end of November, the ministry send a total of 200 million early warning instructions to various localities, and the local organs issued 100 million early warning messages.
