No positive COVID-19 cases have been reported among a total of over 33,000 participants, including runners, staff members and volunteers at the 2022 Chengdu Marathon as of noon on Thursday, according to Red Star News, a media outlet in Sichuan province.

"The event held on Sunday actively implemented epidemic prevention and control measures," according to a person affiliated with the organizing committee. "Except for the 18 elite runners and 13 wheelchair runners who were invited directly, only local runners were allowed to participate in the competition."

The invited runners arrived in Chengdu three days in advance and were put under closed management. They all finished two rounds of nucleic acid testing within 48 hours before arrival and three rounds within 72 hours after arrival.

All local runners must ensure that they did not leave Chengdu within seven days and were barred from leaving the city until after the competition.

All others participants had also remained in the city at least seven days before the event and received COVID-19 vaccinations.
