Major achievements reflected in moderately prosperous society

The moderately prosperous society that China has built features high-quality achievements, Sun Yeli, spokesperson for the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, said during a news conference on Saturday.
The objectives set at the 18th National Congress of the CPC have been realized, Sun said. For example, China's GDP had reached 101.6 trillion yuan ($14.1 trillion) by 2020, he said.
China's per capita GDP has surpassed $10,000 and more than 400 million Chinese have joined middle-income groups, he added.
The Engel coefficients for urban and rural residents have dropped to 29.2 percent and 32.7 percent, respectively. "Chinese people are living a much better life," Sun said.
As the living conditions of the poor form a key indicator of whether a country has entered a moderately prosperous society, the Party has achieved complete success in the battle against the most severe poverty since the 18th National Congress, he said.
By the end of 2020, all 98.99 million impoverished rural residents have shaken off poverty, which is a major achievement in the history of poverty reduction, he said.
With a moderately prosperous society built in all respects, the next goal of the Party and the country is the building of a modern socialist country in all respects.
The 20th National Congress will envision the two stages toward a modern socialist country and set out the strategic tasks and major steps in the next five years, Sun said.
The congress is scheduled to open on Sunday.
