No major workplace accidents and natural disasters happened in China during the week-long National Day holiday that concluded on Friday, according to the national emergency management authority.

"As of 6 pm on Friday, the safety situation in the country was generally stable," said the Ministry of Emergency Management, in a media release late on the day.

In a special conference it held some days before National Day on Oct 1, it said, the ministry had made arrangements for precautionary measures in advance to ensure safety during the holiday and urged local authorities to roll out risk control measures in a more solid and meticulous manner.

The Work Safety Committee of the State Council, for example, dispatched inspection teams to 16 provincial regions, including Shanghai, Liaoning and Jiangsu province, on Sep 23, it said.

The teams identified over 1,400 safety hazards after visiting 331 companies in 47 prefecture-level cities, it said, adding that local authorities were demanded to rectify these major hazards immediately.

The office of the committee is based in the ministry.

It said intensified efforts had also been made during the holiday to remove safety hazards and ensure timely responses to emergency situations.

"During the holiday, employees with emergency management authorities across the country had stayed in their posts and kept ready for any emergency responses around the clock, as they made all-out efforts to ensure the safety of people's lives and property," it said.

Teams with the national fire rescue service, for example, set up over 8,400 temporary bases in key locations across the country to ensure a quick response for emergency situations. During the holiday, the teams saved and evacuated over 4,800 people in 33,000 missions.
