Chinese and Indian troops have disengaged at a border area, according to a spokesman for the Chinese military.

Senior Colonel Tan Kefei of the Ministry of National Defense said at a news conference in Beijing on Thursday afternoon that according to a consensus reached at the 16th round of the China-India Corps Commander Level Meeting, frontline soldiers have disengaged at Jianan Pass, a border pass along the Line of Actual Control between India and China, in a synchronized and organized manner.

"This has become an achievement for both sides' efforts to use diplomatic and defense negotiations to solve border issues. It will help to promote peace and stability in border areas," Tan said.

The spokesman said China hopes that India will continue to work with it to maintain good relations between the two countries and militaries.

Both sides should strictly follow bilateral agreements and consensuses, stay in communication and dialogue, and contain divergences to keep safety and stability in border regions, according to him.

The 16th round of the China-India Corps Commander Level Meeting took place in July at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side.
