The 6.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Luding county in Sichuan province on Monday pulled the heartstrings of all the Chinese people, including an old man from Taiwan who showed his concern by donating 20,358 yuan (about $2,924) for the quake zone.
In a video posted by him on social media, he said: "I'm a Taiwan resident. But more than that, I'm Chinese. It is heart-wrenching to learn such news. I want to do my bit and I've tried my best."
"Natural disasters are merciless; there is love in the world. Not to mention that we (people from both sides of the Straits) are of one family. Stay strong, Sichuan! Stay strong, Luding!" he said.
