Mainland condemns US-Taiwan talks
The Chinese mainland firmly opposes negotiation of any official agreement between the United States and Taiwan, Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Thursday.
His remarks came after media reported the US and Taiwan have begun formal negotiations on the "US-Taiwan 21st Century Trade Initiative".
Urging the US to abide by the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiques with concrete action, Ma said its attempt to play the "Taiwan card" to prevent China's reunification and national rejuvenation will not succeed.
Ma said the Democratic Progressive Party authorities on Taiwan have colluded with external forces and betrayed the interests of the people on the island to seek political interests.
He warned the DPP authorities their actions under the guise of economic and trade cooperation will be punished.
