More mainland universities on world academic ranking list
Academic research organization ShanghaiRanking Consultancy released the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2022 on Monday, assessing more than 2,500 institutions and publishing a list of the top 1,000.
China has 186 universities included in the list, with 83 top 500 universities and nine top 100 universities. The list included 163 universities from the Chinese mainland, an increase of 6 compared to last year. Most of these universities are supported by China's Double World-Class Project.
Eight universities from the Chinese mainland are ranked in the top 100, one more compared to last year. Tsinghua University ranked 26th, climbing two places up since last year and continuing to be the second best in Asia. Peking University is ranked 34th, and Zhejiang University enters the top 50 for the first time.
Universities from the United States continue to dominate this year's top 1,000 list, with 39 universities among the top 100, 127 in the top 500 and 196 in the top 1,000. The United Kingdom has 63 top 1,000 universities, 38 of which are in the top 500 and eight in the top 100.
