Top engineer builds on successes to join CPC
One of China's top engineers who has worked on many world-class super projects is proud to be joining the Communist Party of China.
Zhang Xiuzhen, 46, has played a major role in more than 20 important engineering projects in China and overseas, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Bata Port in West Africa's Equatorial Guinea.
Graduating from Tianjin University in 1998, Zhang began his career at China Communications Construction Company, a multinational engineering and construction enterprise that focuses on ultra-large infrastructure projects.
Witnessing and participating in China's development over the past 24 years, Zhang has helped to make history in the field of engineering.
In 2013, he began leading a team that spent four years to develop theories, improve technologies and carry out experiments in order to construct the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, especially its 5.6-kilometer submerged tunnel section in the Lingdingyang estuary of the Pearl River in Guangdong province.
During the four years, Zhang also gave many lectures about his experiences, published many papers, obtained more than 40 invention patents and won several awards.
It was one of the proudest moments in Zhang's already illustrious career when he witnessed the final and 33rd section of the submerged tunnel dock and marry up with millimeter precision.
He received much praise from peers, including academician Lin Ming of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, who spoke highly of him and said he had not only gained in terms of personal development, but also led the progress in the field of surveying.
In October, 2018, the world-class bridge opened to traffic. In the same year, Zhang wrote an application to join the Communist Party of China.
"I am eager to join the Communist Party of China and integrate my personal values into the Party's cause," he wrote.
In June, Zhang was sworn in to join the Party and has become a probationary member of the CPC.The probationary period is one year.
