Channel, radio station to take Greater Bay Area to the world

Guangdong province officially inaugurated its Cantonese dialect Greater Bay Area satellite TV channel and Voice of Pearl River Radio station frequency on Friday, aiming to better serve the economic construction of GBA and further promote Sino-foreign friendship, exchanges and cooperation.

Cai Fuqing, Party secretary and head of Guangdong Radio and Television, said the special TV channel and radio frequency will help tell good stories in the GBA and the mainland to audiences around the world and spread the GBA and Chinese culture to more foreign nations and regions.

The launch of the TV channel and radio frequency also aims to play a role in promoting cooperation and exchanges among Guangdong and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions in the months to come, Cai said at an inauguration ceremony on Friday.

The TV channel and radio frequency will target more than 120 million people around the world who speak the Cantonese dialect.

Cai said his TV station will produce and broadcast more special programs with typical Lingnan (South China) styles and characteristics for audiences at home and abroad to allow them to understand more about the economic development, local customs and practices, culture and entertainment in GBA and the mainland. More domestic movies and TV blockbusters will be telecast on the TV channel, he said.

Meanwhile the Greater Bay Area, Radio, Television and Audio-Visual Industry Cooperation Forum was held in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, on Thursday to promote exchanges, cooperation, integration of the audiovisual industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The forum was jointly organized by the National Radio and Television Administration and the Guangdong Provincial Radio and Television Administration.

GBA includes nine Guangdong cities — Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Zhuhai, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Huizhou, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing, plus the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions. The GBA has a population of more than 87 million.
