Role models, heroes among police officers commended
President Xi Jinping extended sincere greetings on Wednesday to the country's public security and auxiliary police officers, as he met in Beijing with representatives of heroes and role models from the country's public security departments.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended congratulations to them at the Great Hall of the People.
While addressing a commendation conference on Wednesday, Guo Shengkun, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, said that the country's public security departments must be loyal to the Party, serve the people, promote impartiality in law enforcement and remain disciplined as required by Xi in 2017 when he addressed a gathering of role models from the public security system.
During the meeting, a total of 982 groups and 1,485 individuals from the country's public security system were honored and commended.
Statistics from the Ministry of Public Security showed that from 2017 to 2021, public security bodies across the country handled 418,000 cases of economic crimes, recouping 276.47 billion yuan ($41.42 billion), and uncovered more than 1.22 million telecommunications and internet fraud cases. The number of cases regarding the trafficking of women and children in 2021 has witnessed a major decline of 86.2 percent compared with 2017.
