Airport and ports in Pudong functioning as per normal during lockdown
Shanghai Pudong International Airport and ports in Pudong New Area have been operating normally even though the area has been locked down since 5 am Monday due to a new round of nucleic acid testing for residents. The lockdown will end on 5 am Friday.
According to China-based aviation data service provider VariFlight, Shanghai Pudong International Airport had more than 20 planned inbound and outbound flights on Monday and five of them had either taken off or arrived at the airport as scheduled as of 10 am.
Due preparations have been made in advance at Yangshan port and Waigaoqiao port, two key ports located in Pudong. Staff at the local customs authority are currently working two shifts and extended hours to ensure the security and smooth operation of the ports.
The Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) has been running as per normal, handling its regular daily throughput of between 130,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) and 140,000 TEUs, said Zhou Yong, an assistant to the general manager of SIPG's production department.
