Officials called on to take historical initiative

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has called on senior Party officials to take the historical initiative and assume their duties with a strong sense of political responsibility and historical mission.

Xi made the remark after reading work reports submitted by senior Party officials, including members of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, and members of the leading Party members groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and the State Council.

In the remarks, which were published on Monday, Xi underscored that 2022 is a crucial year as China embarks on a new journey of comprehensively building a modern socialist nation and working toward its second centenary goal.

The CPC is also set to convene its 20th National Congress this year, he noted.

He called on the officials to carry forward the great founding spirit of the Party, endeavor to solve practical problems, be aware of worst-case scenarios and steadfastly implement the decisions and work plans by the CPC Central Committee.

The officials must adhere to the general principle of pursuing progress while ensuring stability, and promote the sound, faithful and across-the-board implementation of the new development philosophy in the sectors and departments they are responsible for, Xi said.

It is important to accelerate the fostering of a new development paradigm, promote high-quality growth and make sound efforts in guaranteeing and improving the public's well-being, he added.

The general secretary urged the senior officials to assume their primary responsibility in exercising strict governance over the Party, carry out the eight-point frugality rules, give play to the spirit of self-reform and forever maintain their political character of integrity and honesty.

He encouraged them to enhance their spirit of struggle and their ability to struggle, always give priority to the cause of the Party and the people, and greet the convening of the upcoming 20th CPC National Congress with concrete actions.
