Guangzhou aims to become a no-waste city

The government of Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, is proposing to realize a negative growth in daily per capita residential garbage by 2035.
It is drawing public opinions on the website of the city's bureau of ecology and environment on Monday on a plan for transforming the city into a no-waste place.
The proposed plan is formulated to be carried out in stages and aims initially for overall application of environmental-friendly packaging materials in courier services within the city by 2023.
It also calls for a zero growth in general industrial solid waste generation intensity in the city by 2023 and a 5 percent drop in hazardous industrial solid waste generation intensity by 2023 compared with the level in 2020.
About 42 percent of the residential garbage should be recycled and 90 percent of the space of new buildings should be built in a green approach by 2023.
The plan also aims at exploring the path toward peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality.
