President greets Germany's Steinmeier on his reelection

President Xi Jinping congratulated Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Sunday on his reelection as German president, saying he is willing to work with him to promote bilateral ties.

In a congratulatory message sent to Steinmeier, Xi said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Noting that he considers the development of China-Germany ties to be greatly important, Xi said he stands ready to work with the German president to give greater importance to the all-around strategic partnership between the two nations and advance bilateral ties to a new level.

Steinmeier was reelected for a second five-year term on Sunday by a special parliamentary assembly.
