Anyang, Henan province, reported that 17 new locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 had been found from 8 am Wednesday to 8 am Thursday, officials said at a news conference on Thursday morning.

The city has reported a total of 140 confirmed cases since the first two cases were identified on Saturday, said Li Chao, deputy director of the municipal government office. All infected people have been sent to a designated hospital for quarantine and treatment.

The coronavirus risk in two areas of Anyang — Yucai School in Tangyin county and Guxian town — were classified as high on Wednesday. A residential building in Huaxian county was classified as medium-risk.

So far, the city has two high-risk areas and five medium-risk areas. It carried out its fourth round of citywide testing on Thursday.

"To ensure medical treatment for pregnant women who are subject to lockdown management or under quarantine, the local government has designated hospitals to provide services," Li said. "The hospitals have set up obstetrics and gynecology emergency backup treatment teams and will open green channels for those in need."

Henan reported 76 local cases on Wednesday, the provincial Health Commission reported on Thursday. Of those, three cases were found in Zhengzhou, 44 in Anyang, 28 in Xuchang and one in Xinyang.
