Guangdong reports $1.17t in import/export volume in first 11 months of 2021

Guangdong province, China's biggest foreign trader, reported an import and export volume of more than 7.47 trillion yuan ($1.17 trillion) in the first 11 months of the year, bucking the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and surpassing the 7.09 trillion yuan recorded in the whole of 2020, a statement released by Guangdong Customs said on Monday.

The figure represented a year-on-year growth of 17.4 percent and accounted for 21.1 percent of the country's total, fortifying Guangdong's status as China's largest foreign trader, the statement said.

The province's export volume came to 4.57 trillion yuan while its imports hit 2.9 trillion yuan between January and November, both up year-on-year by 17.4 percent.

Last month alone, Guangdong, reached a foreign trade volume of 753.97 billion yuan, up 10.6 percent year-on-year. It is the 13th straight month that Guangdong achieved double-digit growth in foreign trade after the outbreak of COVID-19, the statement said.

Guangdong's foreign trade with major trade partners had all enjoyed double-digit increases in the 11 months ending in November, the statement added.

Guangdong's foreign trade with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) reached 1.11 trillion yuan from January to November, up 14.8 percent year-on-year, the statement said.

The province's foreign trade with the Hong Kong special administrative region, the United States and European Union also achieved year-on-year increases of 16 percent, 15 percent and 21.4 percent respectively, according to the statement.

ASEAN, Hong Kong, the United States and EU were the top four trade partners of Guangdong this year through November.
